False Holly

Holly Aamot

Have you ever heard of slow fashion? I hadn’t until I met Holly. Often, we look many areas of our lives to be more efficient and environmental but we rarely look at our clothing. We don’t ask ourselves where our clothes were made or who made them. This is the premise that Holly of False Holly operates under and it shows in her craft.

Holly works out of her home in east central Edmonton where she raises her wonderful family. At the same time, she has a hand in each step of the production of her products. From hand selecting the wool (sometimes even visiting the farm), to trimming her Angora rabbit Hansel to include his fibres in her pieces, to hand dying the wool, and finally spinning and knitting the products herself, this is truly farm to table fashion.

Holly uses both traditional and modern tools for her work. While the act of spinning yarn is ancient, the wheel she uses is modern and almost silent and made with modern materials. She also has a knitting machine in her basement that gives a more predicable look to her work and allows her to vary the appearance of her products.

You can view more of Holly’s work online at https://www.falseholly.com/ or on social media.
